" The fear of being the victim of a mistake is absolutely there ." Andrea Sempio returns to talk about the murder of Chiara Poggi and the consequences of the new investigation by the Pavia Prosecutor's Office, which sees him under investigation for the murder of the young woman, killed in Garlasco on August 13, 2007. Interviewed by Porta a Porta , Sempio acknowledged that the risk of a miscarriage of justice is a possibility that worries him , while maintaining that it is right to investigate any doubts about the investigation.
Alberto Stasi , the victim's boyfriend at the time, was definitively sentenced to 16 years in prison for the murder .
Garlasco, Sempio's words on the new investigation
During the interview, Sempio explained that, in the presence of unclear elements or investigative steps that are not sufficiently in-depth, it would be right to re-examine the case.
“ If there are any doubts, if something hasn't been done 100%, or perhaps mistakes have even been made, it's right to redo the investigation and go and verify ,” he declared.
The man clarified, however, that he does not believe any errors had been made in the investigations into his past, which ended with the case being closed in 2016.
The new investigation represents a different situation for him, bringing his name back into the spotlight almost twenty years after the murder.
Sempio has already denied the charges and, in previous television statements, has also expressed his belief that Alberto Stasi's conviction was correct. This position distinguishes him from the possibility that errors may have been made during the investigation regarding individual elements or findings.
The murder of Chiara Poggi and the conviction of Alberto Stasi
Chiara Poggi was killed in her home in Garlasco on August 13, 2007. Her ex-boyfriend Alberto Stasi was convicted of the crime and sentenced to 16 years in prison. The new investigation by the Pavia Prosecutor's Office has brought the case back to the center of judicial and media attention, with Andrea Sempio under investigation for the murder.
Sempio's position remains under investigation and will need to be assessed by the relevant judicial authorities. His televised statements represent the suspect's version of events and do not, in themselves, confirm or deny the evidence gathered by the Prosecutor's Office.
The fear of a miscarriage of justice , expressed in the interview, is therefore part of a matter that is still open at the investigative level. The investigations and any subsequent decisions by the judiciary will clarify the disputed elements and determine the development of the proceedings.
