Severe weather: Hurricane hits Viareggio, roofs blown off buildings and trees fallen.

Between last night and the early hours of the morning, a violent downpour hit the town of Viareggio, in Tuscany. A wave of extremely severe weather tore down trees, roofs were blown off, roads were impassable, and public facilities were forced to close.

These are the words of the President of the Tuscany Region, Eugenio Giani, who, despite the slight improvement in the weather in recent hours, urged citizens not to let their guard down: "Compared to what the forecasts could have been, the situation is proving to be manageable" , underlining however that heavy rainfall is still expected until 17:00 pm.

The difficulty, as Giani explained, is determining where the so-called water bombs will concentrate. Regarding the damage ascertained so far, the most serious situation concerns the Coriandolo kindergarten, part of the Don Milani Comprehensive Institute, which has sustained damage that has rendered the building unusable. The Municipality has implemented a temporary solution to avoid interrupting educational activities. Starting Friday, October 9th, the children will be transported to another school.

The Dorandro Petri gym was also hit by a tornado.

Viareggio: Violent storm damages tree population

The violent storm that hit Viareggio overnight and into the early hours of this morning also affected the tree population, with several pine trees falling in Araba Fenice Park, while several trees fell onto the road along Viale dei Tigli , thus impeding traffic. The road remains closed, as do the city's pine groves , pending completion of the necessary work to ensure the safety of the area affected by the severe weather.
