Global Blue: Record summer in Capri, tax-free spending up 11%.

Capri, October 13 (askanews) – Capri is strengthening its position as Italy's leading luxury beach destination, with an increasingly strong presence of tourists interested in high-end purchases. This is what emerges from an analysis of Tax Free Shopping data, from the numbers presented during an event organized on the Campania island by Global Blue, a leading player in the sector. "Another record season for Capri," said Marco Cavalli, Commercial Director Italy at Global Blue, "this year too, just like last year.

Capri confirmed its position as Italy's leading summer destination, with 11% growth driven by both a 7% increase in shoppers and a 4% increase in average receipts. It's also worth remembering that Capri is among the top five European summer destinations for tax-free sales. Global Blue's analyses also demonstrate Capri's ability to adjust traffic seasonally.

While the central summer months saw a more modest increase in spending (+4%), between April and May, growth was 39%, while September saw a further 18% increase, confirming the progressive lengthening of the season. The United States remains Capri's leading market, with 55% of total spending generated on the island and an 11% growth compared to 2025.

Behind the US, Latin American markets emerge, together representing 10% of tax-free spending and recording 15% growth. The Arab market (9%), despite geopolitical tensions, remains unchanged, thanks to a 47% increase in average spending per shopper, reaching €6.200. British demand continues to grow, while the Chinese market also shows positive results, with spending increasing by 34%. "We've always had a presence on the island," Cavalli added, "and especially since last year we opened our fourth Italian lounge, after Milan, Rome, and Florence. We're also present on Capri with a space dedicated to non-European tourists. This year, 15 tourists visited us, and with these 15 tourists, we've been able to build a loyalty program. We conducted more than 500 surveys that helped us understand their behavior and guided them through the customs process to complete their tax-free shopping." Regarding the contribution of generations, over 50% of tourists are Gen Z or Millennials, although those over 47 have the greatest impact on spending, accounting for 59%. Furthermore, 62% of tourists purchase luxury brands, with spending growth more than double that recorded in major Italian destinations.
