(Adnkronos) – As winter approaches, the rush to turn on the heating begins. Starting October 15th, depending on Italy's climate zones, the law allows radiators to be turned on. In some large cities, like Milan and Turin, this is already permitted, but what about other major centers like Rome and Naples?
First of all, let's remember that in our country there is no differentiated calendar for regions, but for municipal climate zones (there are six in total, from A to F), as established by Presidential Decree 74/2013.
The first cities to be allowed to turn on heating were those in Zone E, which includes much of the North and several mountainous areas of Central and Southern Italy, including Milan and Turin. Heating can be turned on here from October 15, 2026, to April 15, 2027. The decree sets a maximum of 14 hours per day, including split hours, between 5:00 AM and 11:00 PM.
The same decree establishes that in Rome and most municipalities in Lazio, which fall within Zone D, heating is permitted from November 1st to April 15th for a maximum of 12 hours per day.
In Naples, however, which is part of Zone C along with other large cities such as Bari, Lecce, Caserta, Salerno, Taranto, Brindisi, Catanzaro, Cosenza, Cagliari, Oristano, Sassari, Ragusa, and Imperia, radiators can be turned on from November 15th to March 31st, for a maximum of 10 hours per day. In Zones A and B, which include the mildest areas of the country, radiators can be turned on starting December 1st, while Zone F includes the coldest locations and has no restrictions on the period or hours of operation.
