(Adnkronos) – Classes are at risk across Italy today, Friday, October 16, due to a strike by teachers, managers, and ATA staff. This was announced recently by the Ministry of Education and Merit with Notice No. 60 of October 9, 2026, regarding strike action in the Education and Research Sector and Area. In reality, two strikes have been announced: one nationwide, called by the SISA union, and one limited to schools in the province of Livorno, called by USB Pubblico Impiego Scuola.
At the heart of the national protest are wages, with demands for a 20% increase in wages to offset inflation, and precarious work.
What are the implications for students? The MIM states that affected schools will have to assess the potential consequences for the regular provision of teaching and services, according to the procedures established by strike legislation.
Please remember that school will also be closed on October 30th for the general strike. Much will depend on the number of participants, with administrators able to order late arrivals, early dismissals, or even cancel classes as needed.
