(Adnkronos) – "The elections were stolen here in the State of Israel." This was stated, according to 'The Times of Israel', by Israeli National Security Minister Ben Gvir, leader of the far-right Otzma Yehudit party, after the Shin Bet informed the Election Commission that the information gathered so far indicates that the operations to influence the elections involved "thousands of people and perhaps even more."
Ben Gvir also called on agency head David Zini to arrest all Arab party leaders and interrogate them “in the Shin Bet’s underground cells,” even without the attorney general’s approval. He also called for an immediate suspension of the certification of the election results and the formation of a government.
The debate in Israel is also focused on the results of the US midterm elections, which “have an unexpected consequence: they eliminate any possibility of a national unity government led by Netanyahu,” Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid wrote in X.
“Israel cannot afford to have Benjamin Netanyahu remain prime minister, as it “endangers our security, threatens our democracy, and will devastate our reputation in the world,” Lapid wrote.
For the leader of the Democrats in Israel, Yair Golan, the results of the midterm elections in the United States “expose how toxic a figure Netanyahu has become for both Democrats and Republicans.”
“I warn that if Netanyahu and Ben-Gvir remain in power, Israel could be subjected to international sanctions, international isolation and a confrontation with the United States, our most important friend and ally,” Golan wrote on X, stressing that Israel needs a government that will restore diplomatic relations and promote strategic agreements.
