Italy on high alert for weekend demonstrations, cities under lockdown

The country is bracing for another weekend of potential riots and break-ins, affecting several cities in the north and center.

The weekend of Saturday, October 24th, and Sunday, October 25th is shaping up to be a very heated one in our country. Youth protests are expected to return, as last weekend saw Milan and Piazza Duomo ravaged by fire, with shop windows destroyed and police cars damaged.

Demonstration alert in Italy, more force deployed

Since the day after last week's clashes, the government has decided to intensify police intervention in anticipation of further events. Indeed, those who organized the Milanese break-ins are determined to continue their protests.

For this reason, a strong signal was needed to try to discourage this type of intervention, so the weekend is the perfect test to understand whether they will actually be more effective or whether we will once again find ourselves faced with looting and damage.

The media coverage highlighted the clashes and reinforced the image of the so-called Maranza, who created all the riots to send a message about the difficulties faced by young people in this country.

Street protests across Italy, maximum alert

The street demonstrations today, October 24th, will take place across the country from north to center. Milan is under special surveillance , but the march will move from the Duomo to Piazza Garibaldi. This is not the October 17th Movement, but other protest movements.

The movement hasn't yet issued a statement, but it will certainly take action in Bologna , although, as Fanpage reports , it's unclear where it will start and which parts of the city will be affected. Meanwhile, in Lombardy, the Carabinieri carried out searches in identified locations this morning.

Tensions are high, and now we need to figure out how public order will be managed , having come under heavy scrutiny due to last weekend's lack of preparation. To assess the situation, we'll have to wait until Sunday evening, hoping nothing serious happens.
