On the afternoon of October 30th, the area in front of the San Vittore prison, in Piazza Filangieri, became the scene of a spontaneous demonstration . The initiative was born in direct response to the arrests that took place on October 17th and 18th in Milan , during clashes that affected several areas of the city.
About fifty people gathered to show support for those detained by law enforcement.
The protesters, coming from various neighborhoods of Milan, chose the symbolic location in front of the San Vittore prison to underscore their message of solidarity and to demand an end to what they call "blackmail" by the police and the cost of living.
The reasons expressed by the protesters in Piazza Filangieri
During the microphone moments, a participant declared: “ We are here in solidarity with those arrested.
"Enough with police blackmail, enough with the high cost of living." The words, pronounced with a firm tone, reflected the frustration of a segment of the population who perceive growing pressure both from a security and economic standpoint.
The message of continuity of the struggle
Another speaker reiterated: “ The fight must continue and no one must be left behind .”
The emphasis was placed on the need to keep the protest alive, without excluding any individual involved, whether arrested or simply concerned about social tensions.
Management of the garrison and protest symbols
Before the group gradually dissolved, the protesters lit several fireworks, a spectacular gesture that accompanied the collective cry: " All free, men and women free ." The use of fireworks served the dual purpose of attracting the attention of passersby and symbolizing the breaking of the perceived chains of repression.
Perspectives: The general strike of October 30
During the demonstration, the upcoming event was recalled: a general strike has been called for October 30th by the main trade unions. The call to participate in the general strike represents an extension of the local protest, transforming it into a national mobilization aimed at exerting pressure on multiple institutional levels.
The unions' involvement indicates a synergy between grassroots movements and broader organizational structures, suggesting that the issue of arrests in Milan could become part of a broader debate on public order, civil rights, and economic accountability. The protesters hope that, with their participation in the strike , their demands for freedom and an end to "blackmail" will find a stronger echo nationwide.
