Following White House envoy Steve Witkoff's meeting in Oslo with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the spotlight shifted today to St. Petersburg for talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The meeting lasted a full three hours, and many topics were discussed, including new hypotheses and prospects for ending the conflict, but also included business, diesel laws, and Iran.
Putin, however, a seasoned hawk, opened the meeting with an announcement that the United States had been longing for and working on for a long time: the release of US citizen Stephen Hubbard, detained in Russia.

Regarding the cards currently on the table, after the Oslo talks, Zelensky said he was ready to freeze the front with Russia as a step towards starting negotiations.
Russia is making unprecedented overtures: "We are moving towards the end of the war," said Yuri Ushakov, advisor to President Vladimir Putin, who attended the meeting with Witkoff, adding that "in principle" Moscow "is ready to resume trilateral Russia-US-Ukraine negotiations around November 10."
