In the treatment of osteoporosis, "both vitamin D and calcium are essential. Vitamin D is essential because it allows calcium to bind, so much so that no pharmacological treatment for osteoporosis does not include the systematic association of this vitamin, available in various formulations for daily, weekly, fortnightly, or monthly administration depending on the patient." These are the words of Giulia Letizia Mauro, professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Palermo and director of the Integrated Care Department of 'Rehabilitation, Frailty, and Continuity of Care' at the AOU Policlinico di Palermo, speaking at the second edition of the campaign promoted by Italfarmaco, "Don't Break Them! Don't Waste Time, Protect Your Bones."
