An Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent, the federal immigration police, reportedly fired seven shots at a car yesterday afternoon, October 8, 2026, in Marble Hill, in the far north of Manhattan, wounding the driver, a 28-year-old Dominican man, in the neck, while his son, a 5-year-old boy, was sitting in the back seat.
According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the shooting occurred around 16:00 PM local time (22:00 PM GMT) near the intersection of West 225th Street and Marble Hill Avenue. The child was fortunately unharmed, while his father, Oscar Belgal , 28, was shot in the neck and taken to the hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.
The Department of Homeland Security reported that Belgal, an immigrant from the Dominican Republic , had a previous conviction for aggravated robbery and several arrests for assault, robbery, and drug and weapons possession. However, the circumstances that led to the ICE agents' shooting have not yet been clarified, and the incident is under investigation.

Now .” Mamdani called the incident “an extremely serious situation” and said he had contacted President Donald Trump to ask him to end ICE operations in New York.
