(Adnkronos) – The price cap continues to shift. We're talking about the "price cap" on fuel prices at the pump introduced by Eni on September 28th. The diesel price cap was initially set at €2,19 per liter, then, on October 6th, it was raised to €2,25 due to the five-cent per liter excise duty increase (six cents including VAT).
Eni had therefore reduced its recommended price to 2,21, following the decline in international prices, but still maintaining the ceiling at 2,25. This morning, despite the dramatic jump in international oil prices, the six-legged dog decided to restore the ceiling to its original level, at 2,19 euros per liter, a drop of two cents per liter.
The result is that the average national price of diesel is dropping this morning. The side effect is that it's becoming increasingly difficult for competitors to keep up with Eni: adding together the CIF Med diesel price, excise duty, and VAT, this morning's price stands at €2,197, just seven thousandths above Eni's ceiling.
Seven thousandths which should cover all distribution costs and margins.
This morning, October 9, the average self-service fuel price along the national road network is €2,035/l for petrol (-2 thousandths compared to yesterday), €2,258/l for diesel (-3), €0,768/l for LPG (unchanged), and €1,916/kg for methane (+2). On the motorway network, the average self-service price is €2,046/l for petrol (-2), €2,281/l for diesel (-6), €0,893/l for LPG (-1), and €1,864/kg for methane (+26).
Breaking down prices by sales method and brand using data collected at 8:00 a.m. yesterday, considering all approximately 21,000 points of sale that report prices to the Price Observatory of the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy (road network), these are the average prices calculated by Staffetta: self-service petrol at €2,026/litre (companies €2,006, unlicensed pumps €2,093), self-service diesel at €2,256/litre (companies €2,251, unlicensed pumps €2,277). Self-service petrol at €2,165/litre (companies €2,182, unlicensed pumps €2,134), self-service diesel at €2,386/litre (companies €2,417, unlicensed pumps €2,318). LPG served at 0,763 euro/litre (companies 0,767, white pumps 0,762), methane served at 1,917 euro/kg (companies 1,910, white pumps 1,897), LNG 1,919 euro/kg (companies 1,922 euro/kg, white pumps 1,913 euro/kg).
On self-service petrol Eni is at 1,991 euro/litre (2,206 served); IP at 2,021 (2,198 served); Q8 at 1,993 (2,137 served); Tamoil at 2,026 (2,075 served); on self-service diesel Eni is at 2,226 (2,443 served); IP at 2,269 (2,419 served); Q8 at 2,252 (2,400 served) and Tamoil at 2,267 (2,316 served).
