(Adnkronos) – ATM strike in Milan today, Friday, October 9, 2026: a challenging day for those who travel by public transport. The 24-hour strike called by the AL Cobas and Confial Trasporti unions affects Milan's public transport network, with potential disruptions to the metro, buses, and trams. Service is scheduled during the morning and afternoon hours, but may be interrupted from 8:45 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. until the end of service.

Here are the strike schedules, the affected lines, and what to know before traveling.

The labor action will last 24 hours, but there are certain time windows during which service must be guaranteed. According to ATM's official notice, vehicles may not run regularly during the following hours:

From 8:45 a.m. to 3 p.m.: service may be suspended or reduced.

From 18 pm until the end of the service: second risk band.

The guaranteed slots are from the start of the service until 8.45 am and from 15 pm to 18 pm.

Anyone who needs to get to work, school, or an appointment is therefore advised to plan their travel accordingly.

The strike affects Milan's ATM lines and could affect all major urban transport modes: subways, trams, and buses. It's impossible to predict in advance which services will actually be canceled, as the impact will depend on staff participation.

The M1, M2, M3, M4 and M5 metro lines may also suffer disruptions during non-guaranteed periods.

To find out the actual situation on individual lines, it's important to consult the updates released by ATM throughout the day.

The protest was called by AL Cobas and Confial Trasporti for a series of demands related to working conditions and the organization of the service.

Among the issues raised were staff safety and combating assaults, vehicle cleanliness, work shifts, vacation management, the conversion of part-time to full-time contracts, and requests for salary adjustments. The two unions also highlighted additional critical issues related to company organization and workers' working conditions.

The ATM strike concerns public transport operated by the Milanese group and does not directly affect Trenord trains, which, according to information published ahead of the strike, are excluded from the strike. Those arriving in Milan by train may still have to consider possible disruptions to their onward connection to the ATM urban network.

To check for any station closures, cancelled services, service changes, and resumption of service, we recommend checking the official ATM website before your trip and throughout the day.

The situation may change depending on the strike's participation: planning your trip during the guaranteed time slots and providing an alternative can help reduce the risk of delays.
