Adnkronos (Adnkronos) – The Pietracatella mystery is nearing a turning point in the case of two women poisoned to death in the province of Campobasso. Expert reports from the Koch Institute in Berlin, according to qualified sources, have confirmed the presence of traces of ricin, suggesting a double homicide.
Fifty-year-old Antonella Di Ielsi and her 15-year-old daughter Sara Di Vita died within hours of each other between the evening of December 27th and the morning of December 28th last year in the small Molise town in the province of Campobasso.
Initially attributed to fatal food poisoning, the two women's deaths took a markedly different turn following toxicology analyses conducted by specialized centers. The tests confirmed the presence of ricin, one of the world's most lethal plant toxins, in their tissues. The Larino Prosecutor's Office has therefore opened an investigation into double voluntary homicide.
Investigators interviewed hundreds of people, focusing their inquiries and computer analysis on family members and close acquaintances to identify the motive and the vehicle used to administer the substance. Despite expert assessments and on-site inspections by the RIS, the mystery of who administered the poison remains unsolved.
