Protests against a Trump family-linked resort spark clashes in Tirana.

Tirana, September 9 (askanews) – Clashes erupted between police and protesters yesterday outside the Albanian Parliament in Tirana, on the day of the MPs' return from the summer recess. Protesters threw eggs, tomatoes, and bottles at MPs' cars, which were protected by a cordon of riot police. The protest, now in its 102nd day, is challenging the construction of a large luxury hotel in a coastal nature reserve.

The project is linked to Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner. Some protesters attempted to break through police lines. Authorities have not released the number of those arrested; organizers estimate around twenty. Scientists and environmentalists are denouncing coastal damage and the destruction of bird and sea turtle nesting sites. Protesters are also calling for the repeal of the protected areas law, which they believe was written to favor the investor.
