The premise or promise, hopefully not an illusion, is that Vladimir Putin, Volodymyr Zelensky, and Donald Trump will be able to talk to each other across the table. For now, the November deadline hasn't been set. Meanwhile, the Russian and Ukrainian presidents are discussing the conditions for ending the conflict, but they're doing so indirectly, through diplomatic triangulations, so to speak.

In fact, both of them, first one and then the other, had conversations with the Finnish president and the Norwegian prime minister in separate three-way telephone conversations.
The phone call with Putin also sparked a European controversy. On whose behalf did the two Nordic leaders speak? Even from Rome, sources at Palazzo Chigi emphasized the lack of EU representation and the need to avoid disorganized action.

Meanwhile, a humanitarian truce has finally been reached in the town of Oleshky, expected to last until Sunday. However, cross-fire with Russia shows no signs of abating, with Russia launching 16 ballistic missiles and 280 drones overnight. A key bridge over the Dnipro River in Kiev was damaged, leaving one dead and 14 injured, while seven Ukrainian regions were left without power due to the bombing.

One person was killed and six others injured in a Ukrainian attack in Bryansk.
