(Adnkronos) – "Starting October 1st, family pediatricians will immunize all children born between April 1st and September 30th of the current year against respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection. This means we will have an additional tool, an additional monoclonal antibody, which will reduce not only viral bronchiolitis but also the number of hospitalized infants admitted to intensive care."

This was stated by Antonio D'Avino, president of FIMPA (Italian Federation of Pediatricians), at the press conference held today in Rome by MSD Italia to mark the approval by AIFA (Italian Medicines Agency) of the monoclonal antibody clesrovimab, the first and only preventive option against RSV in newborns in the European Union that does not require dose adjustment based on weight.

“This tool,” D'Avino continues, “is certainly useful because it has less of an impact on the family economy.

Just think of how many days of work parents would be forced to lose if their newborn were hospitalized and, more generally, the general problems of family life. Immunization proves to be a useful tool from this perspective as well."
