Pineto, May 6 (askanews) – The 2026 Italian GT Endurance Championship season will kick off on May 10 at the Misano World Circuit. Many drivers are lining up to win the race, including Riccardo Ponzio. Born in 97, the Pescara native has extensive experience behind the wheel, making him a favorite to secure the top step of the podium at the end of the race. Riccardo Ponzio's thoughts on the eve of the new season: "This is my third year with AF Corse. I'm coming off two very positive seasons where we also scored overall victories, but I think this year will be the right year to aim for the title.
The crew is top-notch and the team is first-rate as its history demonstrates." And on the cockpit companions: "Francesco Braschi and Andrew Rackstraw are two perfect companions for this Endurance championship. I believe that the qualities of all three combined will allow us to aim for no less than the top positions." The big news is the Evo kit: "The 296 GT3 that I have used for the last three years is already a very, very good car to start with. They developed the Evo kit, which has given excellent results, especially in slipstream with the other cars, so especially in race situations it should have big advantages and now this Sunday we will see how it goes." And on the experience consolidated over time that has brought him to this point: "The experience accumulated over the last 3-4 years in the Italian GT is very important. The debut is on May 10th at the Misano World Circuit, then continues on June 21st in Monza, before moving on to the Enzo and Dino Ferrari racetrack in Imola on September 6th and concluding on November 1st at the temple of Mugello.
