Severe weather is coming: intense thunderstorms and a yellow alert in six regions.
The passage of a low pressure system over the Tyrrhenian Sea will significantly worsen weather conditions in the central Tyrrhenian regions in the next few hours. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected , some of which could become severe, especially along the coastal areas. Beginning yesterday afternoon, Tuesday, October 6th, precipitation has particularly affected Lazio, especially the southern regions, and Campania . From today, the low-pressure front will also reach Liguria and Tuscany , with locally intense rainfall.
Thunderstorms may be accompanied by strong gusts of wind, hail and frequent lightning strikes.
In light of the forecast, the Civil Protection Department, together with the affected regions, has issued a severe weather warning. A yellow alert has also been issued for Wednesday, October 7th, for much of Liguria, Lazio, Campania, Abruzzo, and Molise, and for part of Tuscany.
Severe weather could cause hydrogeological and hydraulic problems, for which please consult the national Civil Protection bulletin.
Storms and winds in Italy: forecasts from north to south
Today, Wednesday, October 7, will see widespread rain in the Northwest , with some heavy rainfall in Liguria, while clouds and lighter precipitation are expected in the rest of the country . The weather in Central Italy will initially remain variable, with possible rain in the Abruzzo mountains and worsening conditions in Tuscany in the evening; winds will blow from the south. In the South, heavy clouds and scattered precipitation are expected, especially on the Tyrrhenian and Ionian slopes, with temperatures reaching 26°C in Bari . In Liguria, Arpal has issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms in the Western Ligurian region from 6:00 am to 3:00 pm on Wednesday, October 7, and in the Central-Levant region from 12:00 pm to midnight.
The Atlantic low pressure system will continue to affect the region in the coming days: a more organized phase of bad weather is expected on Thursday, with a new low pressure area and precipitation especially in the Central-Eastern area, while between Thursday afternoon and evening further deterioration could occur in the Central-Western area.
The situation will remain unstable on Friday , before gradually easing. Forecast reliability remains limited over the weekend, but residual instability could persist between the Triveneto region and central and southern Italy , alternating with drier periods. Subsequently, an increase in pressure should favor a slow return to more stable conditions.
