Rome, October 9 (askanews) – In an exclusive interview aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln, broadcast by Real America's Voice, US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth confirmed that the execution of Nidal Hasan, the former Army psychiatrist responsible for the massacre of 13 people at Fort Hood, will be by firing squad and will be broadcast live. “It's an obvious choice: execution by firing squad.
An Army major betrays his country, embraces radical Islamism, and kills several Americans at Fort Hood. Naturally, the execution will take place at Fort Hood. It will take place on Thursday, at 1:00 a.m. sharp—the exact time he committed the massacre—and will be carried out by soldiers armed with rifles. "This is a procedure that hasn't been used since World War II," Hegseth said in an interview with far-right influencer Jack Posobiec. "He will face the firing squad, as he should, and we will make sure that people can watch it, that it is a public event, because people need to understand that there are serious consequences for this kind of thing," Hegseth added. A senior official confirmed on condition of anonymity that the execution will be livestreamed, AFP reports.
"Details will follow," he added. The execution is scheduled to take place at Fort Hood, Texas, at 13 p.m. on Thursday, December 3. A military psychiatrist, Nidal Hasan opened fire in 2009 at Fort Hood to prevent soldiers from participating in a war he deemed "illegal" in Afghanistan and Iraq. Considered a "lone wolf" with ties to the jihadist group Al-Qaeda, he killed 13 people, including 12 soldiers, and wounded dozens.
Shot in the spine during the shooting, he has been confined to a wheelchair ever since. He was sentenced to death in 2013.
