A phone call that appeared to be from her bank turned into a scam that cost Veronica Peparini dearly . The choreographer shared on social media that she was scammed by a fake operator, leaving her with just four euros in her bank account. Here's how it went down.
Veronica Peparini scammed over the phone: the scam exploited her debit card's expiration date.
A seemingly innocuous phone call turned into a nasty surprise for Veronica Peparini , the victim of fraud that cost her the money in her bank account . The choreographer herself made the story public, sharing her experience through Instagram Stories to warn her followers.
" I want to share this story because it can help a lot of people. I was scammed yesterday ," she said, explaining how she fell for it.
The person who contacted her was a man who identified himself as an employee of the Intesa Sanpaolo branch . The attacker allegedly exploited two real circumstances: the imminent expiration of her debit card and the need to change the address to which the new one was to be sent.
A coincidence that helped lend credibility to the conversation. " I believed it because it was all true ," Peparini admitted. The alleged employee later suggested she update her online banking credentials and app details, asking for some personal information. Convinced she was dealing with a bank representative, the choreographer complied.
"They left 4 euros in my bank account." Veronica Peparini's tragedy: the shocking story
The bitter discovery didn't come until the following morning. When she checked her bank account, Veronica Peparini found only four euros left. " And this morning I found myself with only four euros in my account ," she shared on social media , expressing her complete disbelief at what had happened.
During the call, the man allegedly asked her if she was the Veronica Peparini he knew from his television audience. Once he confirmed this, he allegedly took the opportunity to ask her to say hello to her daughter . The woman, thinking she was just a fan, gladly accepted, unaware of who was actually on the other end of the line. " And like an idiot, I even said hello to her daughter. You're an asshole ," she commented with evident bitterness. After publicly denouncing the incident, Peparini also shared the phone number from which the call, received the previous afternoon, shortly before 4:00 PM, was allegedly made.
