(Adnkronos) – “I want to share this story because it can help so many people. Yesterday I was scammed over the phone. Since my debit card was about to expire, I received a call from a number. I answered and they told me they were calling from the San Paolo branch. They asked me if my debit card was about to expire, and indeed it was, and they told me they would have it delivered to my new address, since mine is at my old address.
I believed it, because it was all true." This is how Veronica Peparini, former teacher on Maria de Filippi's talent show 'Amici', began her story on social media to warn users about telephone scams.
Tricked with the excuse of her expiring ATM card, she explained: “I was an idiot because they told me 'if you give us your details, we'll update all your home banking and the app.'
And I, thinking it was true and that this person actually worked at the branch—as happened to me, I think it can happen to many people—gave them my details. And this morning I basically had 4 euros in my account. Not that I had any assets, but… One more thing: this asshole,” he added, “finally asked me, 'Are you Veronica Peparini there?' and I said yes, as I'm often asked.
And he says to me: 'Can you say hello to my daughter?' And I, damn… I also said hello to his daughter."
