(Adnkronos) – In anticipation of the street demonstrations starting tomorrow, Friday, October 30, 2026, Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi today met with prefects, police commissioners, and police chiefs to review security in cities. The meeting at the Ministry of the Interior focused on managing protests in the most sensitive areas, strengthening security, and preventing potential unrest.

In particular, the scenarios that could arise in the most sensitive areas of the cities affected by potential protests and mobilizations were analyzed, including in conjunction with the general strike called by the grassroots unions.

Law enforcement agencies, along with reinforcements provided by the Ministry of the Interior and coordinated by provincial public safety authorities, will ensure widespread coverage of the area to manage the numerous scheduled events.

Thanks also to ongoing monitoring by the intelligence community and police investigators, a comprehensive system will be implemented to protect the right to peaceful protest, ensure the safety of the entire community, and isolate those who take to the streets solely to cause disorder and commit acts of violence.

During the meeting, Minister Piantedosi reiterated his appreciation for the commitment of all law enforcement officers who, even in recent weeks, have once again demonstrated, as always in the past, their ability to manage very complex situations with intelligence, professionalism, and balance.

Lucio Pifferi, Central Director of the Prevention Police and coordinator of the State Police's counterterrorism services, also spoke in the debate on security and the management of the demonstrations, referring to the episodes of devastation and looting that occurred on October 17 and 18.

Pifferi ruled out the possibility that available information had been overlooked, explaining how coordination between police forces, intelligence agencies, and public security authorities occurs. "I am the president of the Casa (Counterterrorism Strategic Analysis Committee), and I can state with certainty that the information gathered by the police forces and intelligence agencies is immediately systematized by the Public Order Office of the Department of Public Security and by local public security authorities, without any underestimation. Regarding the widespread and fragmented acts of devastation and looting that occurred on October 17th and 18th, no alarm was underestimated, nor were these acts completely preventable given their scale and the manner in which they were carried out, for the first time."
