(Adnkronos) – A moment of great grief for Didier Deschamps during the 2026 World Cup. The France coach lost his mother and returned home to attend the funeral, temporarily leaving the national team's training camp. He will therefore not be leading the team in the upcoming training sessions and will not be on the bench for the final Group I match, on Friday against Norway.
Currently, management of the team has been entrusted to his assistant, Guy Stéphan, who will oversee the group until the coach's return. The decision was made in agreement with Philippe Diallo, president of the French Football Federation. In an official statement, the Federation expressed its solidarity with the coach: "At this extremely painful time, we wish Didier Deschamps every courage and assure him of the support of all members of the Federation."
