Milan, October 23 (askanews) – From artificial intelligence to robotics, from smart glasses to predictive medicine, all the way to quantum technologies. These are some of the trends that will shape the future of innovation, outlined in Milan by Brian Comiskey, vice president for Innovation and Trends at the Consumer Technology Association, ahead of CES 2027 in Las Vegas, the world's leading consumer electronics trade show. Innovation is based on three pillars: "The technological foundations, their transformation into concrete applications, and the exploration of new frontiers." At the heart of it all is artificial intelligence, increasingly integrated into production processes and everyday life.
According to a CTA study, 66% of Italians interviewed say they use AI at work, with an estimated average saving of over six hours per week among those who employ it. Emerging trends include AI agents capable of performing complex tasks with human supervision, smart glasses that could complement or replace some smartphone functions, increasingly autonomous and connected cars, personalized healthcare, and wearable devices capable of anticipating potential health problems. But one of the most important transformations concerns so-called Physical AI, artificial intelligence that enters the physical world through increasingly sophisticated robots.
"Humanoid robots represent a focal point of innovation. Their human-like form allows them to operate in environments already designed for people, from factories and warehouses to hospitals and homes," emphasized the CTA manager. And as attention grows on the energy needed to fuel this technological revolution, CES 2027 will also look to the most distant frontiers: quantum computers, data centers in space, and interfaces capable of directly connecting the human brain to machines.
