The forest-wood-energy supply chain looks to the future

Rome, October 23 (askanews) – In a European context where the lack of clean and renewable energy resources is among the major challenges, AIEL is attempting to intervene and provide a solution. The meeting "Wood Energy Italy – Managed Forests, Renewable Energy, Future of Communities" was held in the Parliamentary Acts Hall. The focus was on the prospects and opportunities of the forest-wood-energy industry, which are often undervalued and under-exploited. AIEL President Marco Bussone said: "Starting with the forest is a necessity for a country with 11 million hectares of forests, and growing, that can produce new clean energy, guaranteeing Made in Italy quality to economic sectors and businesses.

At the same time, it also gives companies the opportunity to grow and export products and systems worldwide. AIEL is the only industry association working to unite, rather than divide, in an emergency situation that is also affecting institutions. We must guarantee clean energy and demonstrate that, thanks to wood-based energy, the country can restart its efforts to address the energy crisis." New challenges and technological transformation are forcing the industry to constantly engage, to keep pace with the times and meet an increasingly changing demand. The President of BolognaFiere, Gianpiero Calzolari, commented: "We shared the vision of wood as the energy resource of the future.

This is perhaps the most appropriate time to realistically discuss these issues and to valorize the incredible heritage represented by our Apennines, our mountains, and our forests. Unfortunately, they are often largely underutilized and just as often abandoned. Today, thanks to biomass, it is possible to provide at least a partial, if not complete, response to our energy needs.

On the one hand, Europe's critical issues would be addressed, and on the other, energy independence would be achieved. The challenge faced by AIEL is therefore to guarantee a stable and sustainable alternative source over time, generate economic value, and above all contribute to our country's energy independence.
