(Adnkronos) – “The pharmacy represents the true first line of defense in the regional healthcare system.” Specifically, “in Lombardy, all medications have always been distributed and there has always been a strong focus on prevention, starting with colorectal cancer screening and now with vaccinations. Many services are provided in the region through pharmacies: from the CUP (the single booking center) to choosing and canceling a doctor, but above all, we are there for vulnerable patients, diabetics, kidney patients, and all those who need our help most.

The 3.054 pharmacies in Lombardy work in conjunction with doctors and the Lombardy Region's facilities to improve the health of citizens." This was stated by Annarosa Racca, president of Federfarma Lombardia, speaking today in Milan at the meeting "Pharmacy and Health: Prevention, Innovation, and Proximity for Community Well-Being," organized by the Federation of Pharmacy Owners of Lombardy with The European House Ambrosetti, with the patronage of the Region and the City of Milan, and the unconditional contribution of GSK, Leo Pharma, MSD, and Teva.

The proximity provided by the pharmacy "is even more important when dealing with fragile and chronically ill patients," especially in a country with an increasingly long lifespan, Racca emphasizes. "There's a pharmacy just five minutes from our home," she observes. "It's a pharmacy that, together with the citizens, is trying to move forward." And looking to the future, the president of the regional Federfarma highlights a new development.

"One thing I can announce from these microphones is that Lombardy pharmacies will soon begin administering two additional vaccinations: one against HPV (human papillomavirus), and one against diphtheria, tetanus, and whooping cough. Perhaps many of us have forgotten when we last had our vaccination. This is another way we can support our citizens," he concludes.
