We need industrial players capable of effectively managing these public services and making investments, and therefore, in terms of industrial leverage, it is essential to move toward aggregation and overcome the great fragmentation that plagues this sector."
Yuri Santagostino, president and CEO of the CAP Group, made this statement at the conference "Aggregation and the Circular Economy: The New Challenges of Waste and Urban Hygiene," held at the Westin Palace in Milan. The conference brought together institutions, businesses, and industry experts to discuss closer collaboration among operators in the public waste and urban hygiene services.
"We entered this world a few years ago when we acquired the Busto Arsizio waste-to-energy plant, where we process 100 tons of mixed waste per year, and the Sesto plant, which is a true circular economy hub, where we currently process 30 tons of OFMSW. Work on the sewage sludge treatment plant will be completed in a few months," explains Santagostino.
“Last year, we entered the urban hygiene services sector by acquiring 20% of Aemme Linea Ambiente, a company that has grown significantly in recent months, meeting the milestones of its business plan. Today, we serve approximately 450 residents,” he adds.
“The second challenge concerns the integration between the service and the overall waste treatment chain, therefore management that extends from collection to final treatment.
These, I believe, are the main challenges. Utilities today can make significant economic investments, and it is essential, given that we are emerging from the PNRR period, that our country continues to invest in public services,” concludes the president and CEO of the Cap Group.
