Milan, October 23 (askanews) – On Thursday, October 22, 2026, the performance "Secrets of My Mother's Child" opened the three-day Public Program that Pirelli HangarBicocca is dedicating to Aki Sasamoto's exhibition XYZ. In his performances, Aki Sasamoto activates his sculptural installations through language and movement. Everyday objects—wardrobes and washing machines, glasses and drawers, bowls and clotheslines—are transformed into elements through which the artist ironically explores memories, relationships, and everyday situations, highlighting the most elusive and absurd aspects of the human experience.
The program continues on Friday, October 23rd at 6:00 PM with the performance Centrifugal March, in which the transformation of matter becomes the starting point for reflections on death, memory, and the remnants of a presence over time. On Saturday, October 24th, the program concludes with three performances.
At 11:00 AM, the artist presents "Strange Attractors," in which he draws on mathematical models linked to chaos theory to explore the dynamics of romantic relationships and the forces of attraction and repulsion that permeate them. This will be followed, at 4:00 PM, by "Wrong Happy Hour," in which Sasamoto subverts the conventions of the neighborhood bar, transforming a familiar social space into a transformative environment that explores the tensions between intimacy, individuality, and the expectations we project onto relationships.
The day concludes at 7:00 pm with Delicate Cycle, a performance focusing on the themes of repetition and the sedimentation of memory, in which the cyclical nature of actions, gestures, and materials preserves traces of the past while transforming over time. Aki Sasamoto's performances are in English and admission is free, on a first-come, first-served basis. The Public Program, curated by Giovanna Amadasi, is a series of events exploring themes present in the Pirelli HangarBicocca exhibitions and including conversations, symposia, lectures, and performances.
