"Three times in the emergency room and 40 days of agony," Sabrina dies after a spider bite.

Sabrina Gigliotti, a 39-year-old mother of two, died on October 25th after 40 days of agony. She had likely been bitten by a brown recluse spider and had visited the emergency room three times. An investigation has now been opened.

Sabrina Gigliotti , just 39 years old and the mother of two, died on October 25th at the San Camillo Hospital in Rome. An investigation into her death has been opened following a complaint from her family. Here are all the details.

"Three times in the emergency room and 40 days of agony," Sabrina dies after a spider bite.

This sad story, involving a 39-year-old mother, Sabrina Gigliotti , began last September 26, when she presented herself to the Grassi Emergency Room in Ostia with a swollen and painful leg. The diagnosis was "insect bite with inflammation." Sabrina was then discharged with Augmentin therapy.

Since the treatment failed to improve, the 39-year-old went to Celio Hospital in early October, where a surgeon treated her every other day. According to the reconstruction, no blood tests or specific therapies were performed . However, the pain only worsened over the weeks, with the addition of abdominal burning, joint pain, and severe lower back pain.

On October 18, the woman returned to the Grassi Hospital in Ostia, but was once again discharged, with instructions to have an MRI of her spine, which, however, was never performed. On the morning of October 21, the situation worsened, with Sabrina unable to speak and the pain becoming unmanageable, so much so that her cousin called an ambulance. The 39-year-old was transported back to the Grassi Hospital. From the tests, the doctors informed the family that she was suffering from sepsis. Around 1:30 PM, again according to what was reported, her brothers saw her intubated and with no feeling in her legs, while the paramedics immediately arranged for her emergency transfer to the Spallanzani Hospital to manage the infection. The family, however, reported a prolonged wait: " From the time they intubated her until the ambulance arrived, four to five hours passed ," according to what was reported by Il Messaggero . After being evaluated at Spallanzani Hospital, Sabrina was transferred to the intensive care unit at San Camillo Hospital. There, doctors discovered areas of necrosis in her lungs and heart, liver, and kidney problems. She died on October 25th.

Sabrina Gigliotti's death: an investigation has been opened.

Following Sabrina Gigliotti's death, the Rome Prosecutor's Office opened an investigation following a complaint from her family. Prosecutor Eleonora Fini has assigned the medical examiner to perform an autopsy on the 39-year-old's body to determine the cause of death. Among the hypotheses put forward by the family, and evaluated by investigators, is a brown recluse spider bite , followed by a severe allergic reaction that was not treated promptly and effectively. The family, represented by lawyer Pablo De Luca, is requesting clarification on the protocols followed during the three emergency room admissions.
