Rescue of stranded whales on a New Zealand beach

Cape Palliser, November 5 (askanews) – Volunteers have helped release at least 14 pilot whales stranded along the Wairarapa coast, near Cape Palliser. “There are a lot of dead whales,” says Nikki Carmichael, a marine surgeon. “It’s quite difficult to find them all. Some have already been swept out to sea.” New Zealand and neighboring Australia are hotspots for mass whale strandings.

In fact, large colonies of these mammals live in the ocean waters, but the reason why they beach themselves en masse and often die is still a mystery.
