(Adnkronos) – The life, exploits, loves, and legacy of Julius Caesar, one of history's great protagonists. This is the story at the heart of "Alberto Angela Tells Julius Caesar," the Rai Cultura evening event airing today, Sunday, October 18, at 9:30 PM on Rai 1, in the prestigious setting of the Colosseum.
Alberto Angela will accompany spectators on this fascinating journey through time. From the Colosseum, before a young audience and accompanied by a live orchestra, he will retrace Caesar's extraordinary human and political story.
The Colosseum did not yet exist in Caesar's time, and it would not be inaugurated until over a century after his death. Yet it remains one of the most powerful symbols of imperial Rome, which had its foundations in the conquests and political transformations initiated by Caesar. This is the starting point for a journey that begins on the Ides of March and travels back in time to the decisive years that transformed an ambitious politician into the conqueror of Gaul and the most powerful man in Rome.
Battles, political intrigues, love affairs, alliances, and betrayals paint a portrait of a complex, fascinating, and controversial figure. The Colosseum becomes an integral part of the show, transformed into the setting for the events depicted, thanks to augmented reality and immersive reconstructions. Alberto Angela's narrative, accompanied by images and sequences, will allow visitors to meet the key figures of the era and enter the world of the legions, Republican Rome, the peoples of Gaul, and the monumental remains of Pharaonic Egypt.
From the conquest of Western Europe to the clash with Pompey, from the crossing of the Rubicon to the civil war, up to the journey on the Nile and the love affair with Cleopatra, Caesar's personal story is intertwined with the crisis of the Republic and his irresistible rise, finally broken by the brutal assassination by the conspirators on the Ides of March 44 BC. A great television story, spectacular but rigorously historical, which attempts to understand why, more than two thousand years after his death, the name of Caesar continues to be synonymous with success and victory.
The evening is organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Tourism, and the Colosseum Archaeological Park.
"Alberto Angela Tells Julius Caesar" is a production by Rai Cultura and the TV Production Department – Rome TV Production Center, directed by Fabrizio Guttuso Alaimo, with photography by Roberto Andreozzi. The program is written by Alberto Angela with Fabio Buttarelli, Luca Di Ciaccio, Vito Lamberti, and Emilio Quinto. Project manager Anna Maria Tiberi, curated by Francesca Giovannetti.
