(Adnkronos) –
Severe weather returns to Italy. Starting today, Sunday, October 18th, unstable currents will enter the country, easing the high pressure recorded in recent days, bringing above-average temperatures. Precipitation will occur, gradually spreading throughout Italy over the course of the week.
Mattia Gussoni, meteorologist at iLMeteo.it, predicts a new phase of meteorological instability starting today, with rain expected to be concentrated mainly in Piedmont, Liguria, western Lombardy, and the Tyrrhenian areas of Tuscany.
Light precipitation will also affect Sicily, Sardinia, and the Tyrrhenian areas of Calabria. For the time being, stable conditions will persist in the rest of Italy, with plenty of sunshine and highs of 23-24°C in central and southern Italy and on the two islands.
The situation will begin to change starting from Monday 19th, when light precipitation will be confined between lower Piedmont and Liguria, but will be the prelude to a return of instability.
In fact, on Tuesday 20 October the entry of an Atlantic trough will favor a general worsening of weather conditions across much of the country.
The region most affected could be Liguria, where low-level circulation could favor the formation of structured thunderstorm systems. A line of convergence between the warm and moist Sirocco wind, rising from the southeast, and the cooler northerly Tramontana currents could develop in this area: the interaction between the two air masses will lead to severe thunderstorms.
At the same time, widespread rainfall will affect the remaining central and northern regions, especially upper Piedmont, Lombardy, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Tuscany, and Campania, with Sirocco gusts estimated at up to 40-50 km/h along the coasts.
Strong instability is also expected on Wednesday and is destined to characterize the rest of the week.
