(Adnkronos) – Amid the notes of Mozart, Brahms, and the contemporary atmospheres of Nicola Campogrande, the inaugural season of the Amiata Music Festival, led by Nicholas Chalmers, concluded at the Forum Fondazione Bertarelli. The event has established itself as an original musical laboratory, dedicated to young talents and great international music, combining artistic excellence and education.
The program concluded with a powerful concert featuring Trio Concept, three young musicians from Turin: Lorenzo Nguyen on piano, Edoardo Grieco on violin, and Francesco Massimino on cello. They were joined for the occasion by renowned violist Hélène Clément. A refined program spanning eras and musical styles, bringing together the great European chamber music tradition with contemporary and urban sounds.
The evening featured works by Mozart and Brahms, alongside Urban Gardens (2012) by Italian composer Nicola Campogrande, who was present and received applause from the large audience in the Auditorium, along with the artists. This work invites listeners to immerse themselves in contemporary urban life, where sounds intertwine with the fabric of modern life, moving effortlessly between influences from pop, jazz, and classical music.
The final event also epitomized the Festival's philosophy. More than just a concert series, the Amiata Music Festival is a journey of artistic growth, designed to offer emerging musicians the support they need to experiment and perfect their work. This principle was strongly supported by the Festival's director, who placed training and artistic residency at the heart of the first edition.
Alongside the program developed with Trio Concept, the 2026 program also hosted a series of masterclasses led by internationally renowned figures such as opera star Joyce DiDonato and the renowned string trio Time For Three. These were significant opportunities for young singers to hone their performing skills in the spaces of the Bertarelli Foundation Forum. Special attention was also paid to educating tomorrow's audiences, thanks to discounted tickets for those under 25, in the belief that the dissemination of music necessarily depends on engaging the younger generations.
At the end of the season, Chalmers' assessment is decidedly positive. "I am very satisfied with this first edition," stated the artistic director, already anticipating the festival's future developments. The goal is, in fact, "to expand the program from 10 to 14 concerts, with a 2027 season that will begin in June and conclude in October. Among the new initiatives under consideration is the possibility of combining the educational activities with masterclasses open to the public." With a program that brings together renowned performers and emerging talents, the Amiata Music Festival concludes successfully and is already looking to the future, strengthened by a vision that aims to make the Amiata region an increasingly vibrant and recognized place for the production and dissemination of quality music.
