(Adnkronos) – A repeat of the Natisone tragedy occurred this evening around 7:30 PM, when three people were trapped in their car in the middle of the Meduna River ford, in Rauscedo di San Giorgio della Richinvelda (Pordenone). When the Spilimbergo Fire Department and river rescue teams from Pordenone and Udine arrived on the scene, the river had swollen significantly, the car was half submerged, and the three occupants had managed to take refuge on a small island that had formed in the middle of the river.

River rescuers launched a rafting dinghy into the water and, paddling in the strong current, reached the three, securing them while awaiting the regional air rescue, which the Destra Tagliamento firefighters' operations room had requested from Sores, the Friuli Venezia Giulia regional rescue service. The helicopter recovered the three people with a winch and took them to safety, while the firefighters returned using their rafting dinghy.
