(Adnkronos) –
Signs of tension in the Middle East. While Donald Trump has not ruled out a new offensive against Iran, the United States has ordered all its embassy staff in Saudi Arabia and their families to leave the country, as the kingdom continues to be targeted by attacks from Yemen's Houthi rebels.
A diplomatic source told AFP, specifying that Washington has also ordered the evacuation of the families of US embassy staff in the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Qatar, and Bahrain. "All American personnel and their families have been ordered to leave the US embassy in Saudi Arabia," the source said.
At the same time, new statements by Benjamin Netanyahu.
"The Iranian regime has not yet learned its lesson," and "there is only one way to remove the threat once and for all," and that is to "overthrow the regime in Iran," Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said during a military ceremony in the south of the country. According to Netanyahu, "the Iranian regime has not yet learned its lesson; Mojtaba Khamenei has decided to follow in his father's footsteps," and "Iran is once again attempting to develop its weapons of death."
“So,” he continued, “there is only one way to remove the threat once and for all, to overthrow the regime in Iran, and that is my directive to the IDF, Mossaf, and the security agencies.”
Dozens of Israeli Air Force fighter jets flew over Syrian and Iraqi airspace on Monday, reaching as far as the Iranian border, in what Israel described as a military exercise aimed at deterrence, according to Axios, citing Israeli and American officials. The operation also involved refueling planes and followed a route consistent with a potential attack on the Islamic Republic, before the aircraft reversed course and returned. Israel had informed Washington in advance of the exercise, which was conducted a week before Israel's October 27 elections.
However, some American officials suspect that Israel deliberately intended to provoke a reaction from Iranian air defenses, hoping that Tehran would open fire on the fighters, thus providing a pretext to resume attacks on Iran. The incident comes after reports, also reported by Axios, that Netanyahu urged Trump to consider a new offensive against Iran before the Israeli and US midterm elections. Trump, initially supportive of the idea, later decided not to proceed.
