This was stated by Dario Crisci, CEO of Logista Italia, during the presentation of the "Report on the Distribution of Smoking and Smokeless Products 2026," promoted by Logista in collaboration with the Tor Vergata Foundation.
Regarding the ways in which the network and corporate systems translate regulations into traceability and the fight against illegality, "events like this represent a fundamental opportunity to anticipate the adoption of a regulatory framework and have the necessary time to plan and evolve the systems, procedures, and automations that are implemented," explains Crisci. "This approach allows us to adapt over time to market and regulatory evolution, ensuring high safety standards and constant monitoring of the supply chain."
Regarding the implementation times required for the distribution network to adapt to the revision of the European TED and TPD directives, Logista's CEO clarifies: "From a strictly engineering perspective, the time required to adapt the solutions is not a very long time.
As a company operating in the distribution sector, we innovate to meet changing demands in a timely manner. What does, however, require much more in-depth discussion and adequate time is the necessary dialogue to assess the implications of regulatory developments. This dialogue is essential to safeguard the sustainability of the entire sector and the guaranteed contribution to state coffers.
"We need to fully understand the implications for an economic system in which logistics is only a key aspect, but one that involves the control and protection of a key tax revenue for the country and the direct involvement of over 50 retailers, which translates into the employment of 50 families," Crisci concludes. "There's a limited timeframe for adopting the engineering solution, but there must be adequate time for discussion to determine whether such an evolution can guarantee the sustainability of the complex and multifaceted ecosystem within which we operate."
