Garofano thus responds, from a distance, to the Pavia Prosecutor's Office which, in the new investigation into the murder of Chiara Poggi, casts doubt on the work done on the pedals of Alberto Stasi's burgundy bicycle.
Pedals investigated by the convicted man's defense: the data made available to the Pavia prosecutors by the Parma RIS in November 2015 allegedly demonstrated the existence of two counter-analyses that, as early as September 20, 2007, four days before the former Bocconi graduate's arrest (which was not validated), demonstrated the absence of the victim's genetic material on the pedals.
These two negative samples—also confirmed by consultants for the Pavia prosecutor's office—were found nowhere in the Vigevano prosecutor's investigation. The exchange of pedals between the burgundy bike and the black one that a witness saw in front of the house on Via Pascoli on the morning of the crime, supported by the civil plaintiff, was never confirmed in the Stasi trials, and the Pavia prosecutor's office itself called it "a suggestion."

For Garofano, "there's an important point: all those analyses," now questioned by the Pavia prosecutor's office investigating the August 13, 2007, crime, "were conducted cross-examination, that is, in the presence of the consultants, including Alberto Stasi's. Many of the procedures were conducted in complete contextualization, and otherwise the results were shown to the consultants, so it's difficult to understand how all this could have happened." The former general has no doubts: "I categorically rule out, with absolute certainty, any irregularities on the part of my collaborators who performed the analyses."
