During the fifth edition of the Infrastructure Academy , held in the evocative greenhouse of the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome, the sole director of Calzoni Spa , Giacomo Calzoni, outlined the guidelines that, in his opinion, will shape the future of Italian construction.
The event, which took place within a context of strong focus on sustainability, highlighted how the sector, traditionally anchored to consolidated processes, must now integrate advanced technologies to address environmental, safety, and efficiency challenges.
Calzoni reiterated the importance of leveraging the best available expertise to translate innovations into concrete results in the field.
Giacomo Calzoni's speech at the fifth Infrastructure Academy
In his speech, Calzoni emphasized that the transformations affecting the construction industry are numerous and rapid. He proclaimed that the ability to implement significant technological innovations will be the true test for companies in the sector.
The manager also recalled that recent innovations, especially those related to environmental aspects , represent a unique opportunity to redesign processes and products, provided that the appropriate skills are made available.
Towards a low-impact building model
One of the trends that has emerged is the desire to consume as little land as possible.
Calzoni stated that both public and private entities will need to orient their strategies toward minimal land use, avoiding uncontrolled expansion. This choice, according to the administrator, will result in investments focused on existing areas rather than new ones, requiring accurate data collection and interpretation to ensure efficient planning.
Investments in existing assets and the role of data
To achieve this vision, Calzoni emphasized the need to develop analytical tools capable of assessing the potential of existing buildings and infrastructure. The goal is to transform existing sites into starting points for redevelopment projects , minimizing the impact on new natural areas. The executive also emphasized that the availability of accurate data will allow investments to be directed toward high-value projects, optimizing resources and time.
The PNRR and the need for additional resources
Calzoni then dedicated part of his speech to the National Recovery and Resilience Plan ( NRRP ). He acknowledged that the NRRP has provided a significant financial contribution, but also noted that, due to this influx, many projects have remained on the administration's back burner, resulting in many businesses starting from a near- zero state of planning. The executive concluded by reiterating that new resources must be allocated to ensure continuity and avoid wasting work already accomplished, especially since businesses have already strengthened their operational capabilities.
Giacomo Calzoni's words outline a clear path: less land occupied, greater valorization of existing assets, intensive use of data, and a continued commitment from institutions to finance the transition. If these guidelines are followed, the Italian construction sector could become a model of sustainability and innovation at the European level.
