(Adnkronos) – The truckers' protest is also having a serious impact on the buffalo milk supply chain, already struggling with exponential increases in production costs, which are bringing farms and processors to their knees. The Consortium for the Protection of Mozzarella di Bufala Campana DOP (Buffalo Mozzarella Campana DOP) is raising the alarm about a situation that is worsening daily.

Not only is PDO Buffalo Mozzarella now in short supply even in supermarkets, but the real challenge is the production freeze. This situation threatens to deal a serious blow to the industry.

"Mozzarella di bufala campana DOP is a fresh product, so it's more affected by the difficulties. Currently, farmers produce milk, but they can't get it to the dairies due to the transport ban. So, since yesterday, many dairies have been closed because they don't have the milk to process into mozzarella DOP within 60 hours, as required by the regulations," explains Consortium Director Pier Maria Saccani.

Adding to the closure of dairies are the difficulties faced by farmers, "who obviously continue to milk their buffalo, but don't know where to store the milk and aren't receiving supplies for their herds," Saccani emphasizes.

The announcement of the continuation of the protests in Campania could lead to further crisis scenarios for the sector.

"The government urgently needs decisive action to avoid the panic we're already seeing," commented Director Saccani, who concluded by appealing "to the sense of responsibility of those protesting. We ask them to be careful with perishable products, allowing them to pass so as not to trigger a war of the poor."
