This is the goal of the European Week for Safety and Health at Work, scheduled in L'Aquila on October 20, 21, and 26, 2026, the year the city is the Italian Capital of Culture.
The initiative, launched by INAIL and the Municipality of L'Aquila, is part of the initiative to promote a culture of health and safety at work, supported by the Ministry of Labor and Social Policies.

“Health and safety at work,” explains INAIL President Fabrizio D'Ascenzo, “are a priority that requires constant and shared commitment.
In a world of work undergoing profound transformations, we must strengthen our ability to prevent risks by enhancing training, technological innovation, and collaboration between institutions, businesses, and social partners. Prevention cannot be limited to compliance with regulations: it must become an integral part of the organization of work and the culture of every community. L'Aquila Week is an important opportunity to promote this commitment and put individual protection at the center.
"It is a source of great satisfaction," emphasized the mayor of L'Aquila, Pierluigi Biondi, "that our city is hosting the European Week for Health and Safety at Work in the very year it is the Italian Capital of Culture.
As an administration, we have always considered these policies a priority, supporting discussions between institutions, businesses, workers, and the education sector. In a city engaged in a major reconstruction and transformation process, talking about safety also means talking about innovation and the future. The initiative promoted together with INAIL and the Ministry of Labor represents an important opportunity to maintain high levels of attention on these issues and, above all, to build greater awareness, starting with the younger generations.
The first day, Tuesday, October 20, will take place at the Auditorium of the INAIL Abruzzo Regional Directorate, on Via Vetoio, and will be dedicated to regulatory developments regarding workplace health and safety. The discussion will involve representatives from the Ministry of Labor and Social Policies, INAIL, the National Labor Inspectorate, relevant institutions, and social partners. Special attention will be given to the relationship between technological innovation and prevention, with a focus on intelligent personal protective equipment, artificial intelligence, and robotics applied to reducing occupational risks.
This afternoon, at 3:00 PM, Piazza Palazzo will host the inauguration of an informative, educational, and photographic exhibition on workplace safety. The exhibition will display and showcase the graphic and video works created by students as part of the three editions of the national competition "Health and Safety... Together! Workplace Prevention and Safety Are Learned at School," promoted by the Ministry of Labor and Social Policies, in conjunction with the Ministry of Education and Merit, and in collaboration with INAIL (National Institute for Insurance against Accidents and Illnesses).
On Wednesday, October 21st, the event will move to the Formedil headquarters on Via Pizzoli in San Vittorino, for a day dedicated to safety in the construction sector. The program will include in-depth discussions on prevention incentives and reward mechanisms, testimonials from local companies, and the role of training, technology, and organization in risk management.
The discussion will include representatives of INAIL, Formedil, Ance Abruzzo, employers' associations, and trade unions in the construction sector, along with representatives of organizations involved in the reconstruction and development of the areas affected by the 2009 earthquake. The goal is to highlight the contribution of prevention to the quality of work and the sustainability of production processes, promoting concrete tools to support businesses and workers in managing safety.
"For Abruzzo," emphasizes INAIL regional director Katia Panella, "hosting these days means strengthening the dialogue between institutions, businesses, professionals, and the education sector on a topic that closely affects people's lives and the development of the region. We want to help spread a culture of concrete prevention, translating into informed behavior, investments in safety, and greater attention to risks. The involvement of schools, construction companies, and local businesses is essential to building shared responsibility and making safety a daily value."
The final day will be held on Monday, October 26, at the Park Auditorium, with a welcome address from the Minister of Labor and Social Policies, Marina Calderone. Following official greetings from the Mayor of L'Aquila, Pierluigi Biondi, speeches will be given by Fabrizio D'Ascenzo, President of INAIL (National Institute for Insurance against Accidents and Disasters), Vito Cusumano, Prefect of L'Aquila, Regional Councilor Roberto Santangelo, and President of the Province, Angelo Caruso.
