Bills Decree: Agreement reached between Italy and the EU: what changes for citizens?

The meeting between the main European heads of government brought the issue of energy costs to the table, and Italy and the European Union agreed to lower electricity and gas prices.

The issue of high energy prices affects major European countries, not just Italy. It's important for Italy to do its part and reach a compromise with the EU to find a way to lower gas and electricity costs, at least temporarily, so that citizens don't end up paying sky-high electricity and gas bills.

Picchetto speaks on the bill decree: Italy and the EU are in a constructive meeting.

Speaking on the sidelines of the news of an agreement reached is Environment Minister Picchetto himself, revealing that a constructive meeting took place between the Italian government and the EU .

Going into the merits of what was discussed, Picchetto explained that the text relating to the method with which the Italian government intends to reduce energy costs will soon be included in the new budget , therefore electricity and gas will cost less for citizens, all in a phase of great uncertainty on the energy market.

The Italian government's clear goal is to reduce energy prices so that the country can remain competitive in Europe and remain ahead of the curve on this important, yet sensitive, issue.

Italy-EU Agreement: How Gas Prices Will Change for Citizens

Palazzo Chigi's announcement of an agreement reached between Italy and the EU on the price of electricity and gas aimed to reach a price ceiling that would not be exceeded temporarily, as happened in 2022 when the war between Russia and Ukraine began and gas prices skyrocketed.

As reported by Corriere della Sera, the price of gas for citizens will drop by a quarter compared to the current situation , considering that the price per megawatt hour in production is €120 mWh with an ETS of €33 but the offer to citizens is slightly higher due to the "spread".

On the exchange, the price will be €150/mWh , plus a spread of €20-25. For example, today the PUN is €230, and this decree would result in a discount of €50-55. In short, the price here too will be reduced by a quarter compared to today.
