Brussels hosted the presentation of the second edition of the EU Economic Footprint Study, Philip Morris International's research on the company's contribution to the European economy between 2021 and 2025. The overall economic impact is €343 billion: €22,3 billion spent with European suppliers, €27,4 billion invested in operations on the continent, and €39,5 billion in exports.
On the employment front, 164 jobs were created. Marco Hannappel, president of PMI's Europe Region, noted that 17 out of 19 European plants have already been converted to next-generation products and that 99% of investments are earmarked for smoke-free products. The goal is to make Italy a smoke-free country within ten years.
Also on the table are EU directives on excise duties and products: SMEs are calling for adequate time and a data-driven approach, modeled after Italy and Sweden.
