"A decade ago, the median survival of patients with metastatic melanoma was about 6 months. Today, more than 50% of patients are alive 10 years after diagnosis, often disease-free, and a significant percentage of patients are untreated." Two strategies have made the difference: "targeted therapies based on genomic profiling, and immunotherapy."
This was stated by Mario Mandalà, past president of the Italian Melanoma Intergroup, speaking at the IMI national congress in Bologna.
