(Adnkronos) – "Maire is an engineering group: with Tecnimont, it specializes in the transformation of natural gas into many product areas, and with Nextchem, we're working on alternative technologies that can produce the same products, such as fuels or advanced materials, minimizing or replacing fossil fuels where possible. But we're lacking people. Over the years, we've undergone a cultural shift: we were used to always looking at the resumes of students graduating from chemical engineering schools, but in the meantime, we've lost our experts, our technicians—people who graduated from industrial technical institutes—are no less qualified than any other career path a student can take.

This is why, together with Acea and Q8 and two educational institutions: the Campus Bio-Medico, the Salesians of Cnos-Fap, who provide professional training and have therefore always worked with technicians with advanced laboratories, we have created a strong partnership and we want to launch the first course in Energy Transition Specialist”. So said Carlo Nicolais, Institutional Relations, Communication & Sustainability Vice President Maire Group and general director of the Green Innovation Foundation Its Academy, speaking at the Adnkronos Q&A on 'Sustainability, the new key words', today at Palazzo dell'Informazione in Rome.

"This is a role," Nicolais explains, "who, over the course of two years, will gain significant in-house experience, including internships—around 800 of the 1.800 hours planned, including internships—with expertise in the energy transition from an economic, regulatory, and laboratory perspective, gaining insights into sustainable chemistry processes.

It's not just a technology problem, but a skills one. In Italy, the latest data shows that between 2025 and 2029, 1,6 million people will be missing for green jobs.

In the Tiburtina Valley, "which is already a particularly lively place for technology companies and research institutions," Nicolais explains, "we are inaugurating, next week, a large industrial research center featuring both laboratories and pilot plants, specifically for testing new technologies.

It's one of the most important platforms in Europe. I believe we'll be talking about a district, with the ITS (Higher Technical Institute), which will also have a cultural and social responsibility towards the local area. Our Maire Foundation is also looking for a home there, because it works extensively on school dropouts and on issues directly related to social inclusion in a region that is quite complex in this regard. Multilevel intervention," he concludes, "is what interests us most, obviously always within an ecosystem with all the local stakeholders who, like us, are choosing to strengthen their presence in that area of Rome."
