Matteo Bonacina, an archer for the Paralympic national team, has been arrested and is now under house arrest on charges of stalking and sexual assault as part of an investigation conducted by the Rome prosecutor's office and the postal police. The news was reported by the newspaper "La Repubblica," which alleges that Bonacina, the 2023 world champion in the Czech Republic, severely harassed at least five athletes and a coach between 2019 and 2024.
"He demanded a red thong from a national team athlete as a good luck charm for the 2024 Paris Paralympics," the report states. "During the same Games, he attempted to rape another Italian athlete in the hotel room where he was staying." Not only that, but Bonacina is also accused of sending intimate images to the athletes.
"This material is the focus of a significant part of the investigation. The victims' testimonies," the newspaper writes, "along with the data analyzed by the postal service, allow us to reconstruct the frequency and nature of the contacts."
