Salvatore Giglio disappeared in Cutro, his wife and son arrested on murder charges.
Two years after the disappearance of Salvatore Giglio, a 69-year-old from Cutro , a breakthrough has arrived in the investigation into his mysterious disappearance. As reported by Rai News , the Carabinieri have arrested his wife, Daniela Rossato, 60 , and his son, Nicola Giglio, 28 , on charges of complicity in murder and concealment of a corpse.
According to investigators' reconstruction, the man was killed on September 21, 2024 , inside the home or its appurtenances, and his body was subsequently transported and thrown into the Tacina River , in the Steccato di Cutro area. However, his body was never recovered. His wife reported him missing on September 28, 2024, a week after the date indicated as the last sighting of the 69-year-old.
The investigation, coordinated by the Crotone Public Prosecutor's Office , continued through wiretaps, wiretaps, and numerous testimonies, until, according to investigators, evidence against the mother and son emerged. In December 2025, both were registered as suspects. The Crotone investigating judge then ordered their pre-trial detention , at the request of the Public Prosecutor's Office.
Cameras and traces in the house: investigators' reconstruction of Salvatore Giglio's disappearance
Among the evidence collected by investigators is footage from a video surveillance camera installed near the family's home. According to Sky Tg24 , on September 21, 2024, the footage showed Giglio in the courtyard with his wife , during moments of intense tension between the two. Shortly thereafter, his son also appeared, holding an unidentified object , before entering the home. Two days later, the same camera captured the two loading something into a car that investigators believe may have been the victim's body.
Further evidence emerged from searches carried out at the home. According to the prosecution, the mother and son attempted to remove any possible traces of the crime by purchasing several liters of bleach to clean the scene, and they agreed on versions to provide to investigators. Their statements later turned out to be conflicting. Meanwhile, the Carabinieri of the RIS (Italian Special Operations Unit) and specialists from the Messina Underwater Unit have conducted several on-site inspections in an attempt to locate the body, but have so far been unsuccessful.
According to investigative hypotheses reported by sources, there may be a financial motive behind the alleged crime , linked to family tensions and the destination of Giglio's assets. However, this is an investigative lead and not a definitively established motive.
