Gasoline prices continue to rise. Today, May 5th, for the first time in two years, they exceeded 1,9 euros per liter. Diesel prices fell slightly, still a good four cents above two euros, while LPG is at 82 cents per liter.

The Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy announces that, based on the latest data collected by the MIMIT Fuel Price Observatory, the average self-service fuel price along the national road network is currently €1,926/l for petrol and €2,044/l for diesel.

On the motorway network, however, the average self-service price is 1,981 euros/l for petrol and 2,114 euros/l for diesel.

According to Staffetta Quotidiana's regular survey, IP increased its recommended gasoline prices by 6 cents per liter and reduced diesel prices by four cents. For Q8, we recorded a one-cent reduction on gasoline, and for Tamoil, a one-cent reduction on diesel.

Breaking down the prices by sales method and brand using the data collected at 8:00 yesterday morning, considering all 20,000 or so points of sale that report prices to the Price Observatory of the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy (road and motorway network combined), these are the average prices charged as calculated by Staffetta: self-service petrol at 1,901 euros/litre (companies 1,916, non-companies 1,872), self-service diesel at 2,049 euros/litre (companies 2,054, non-companies 2,040).

Petrol is served at €2,024/liter (companies €2,072, unlicensed stations €1,936), diesel is served at €2,187/liter (companies €2,228, unlicensed stations €2,108). LPG is served at €0,821/liter (companies €0,834, unlicensed stations €0,808), methane is served at €1,573/kg (companies €1,572, unlicensed stations €1,573), LNG is served at €1,525/kg (companies €1,541/kg, unlicensed stations €1,513/kg).

On self-service petrol Eni is at 1,944 euro/litre (2,126 served); IP at 1,899 (2,056 served); Q8 at 1,918 (2,042 served); Tamoil at 1,923 (1,986 served); on self-service diesel Eni is at 2,045 (2,256 served); IP at 2,070 (2,236 served); Q8 at 2,053 (2,221 served) and Tamoil at 2,046 (2,129 served).

According to the National Consumers Union, "while diesel prices dropped in all regions between May 1st and 5th, rising by just 0,1 cents on the motorway, or 5 cents for a 1-liter tank, petrol prices soared by over 17 cents, 17,2 on the motorway and 17,1 on average for roads (including Bolzano and Trento), with a 50-liter tank costing €8,60 and €8,52, respectively."

But in some regions things went even worse."

"The record increase goes to Trento," emphasizes Massimiliano Dona, president of the UNC, "where gasoline has risen by 18,5 cents, more than the 18,3 cents expected due to the 15-cent increase in excise duties if the industrial price had remained constant, equal to 9 euros and 25 cents for a tank. Tuscany, Lombardy, and Piedmont take the silver medal with an increase of 18 cents, or 9 euros per tank. Veneto follows (+17,9 cents, equal to 8,95 euros). As for the absolute price, after the motorways where it sells for 1,981, it costs more in Bolzano (1,945), in Trento and Valle d'Aosta (1,944), and in Calabria (1,940)." The regions "that have benefited the least from the increase in excise duties are Molise and Basilicata, +15,1 cents equal to 7 euros and 55 per tank" concludes Dona.
