Tragedy struck in Mazara del Vallo, in the Trapani province, where a woman died when a reinforced concrete balcony slab collapsed. The accident occurred Tuesday evening on Via Raffaele Castelli.
According to an initial reconstruction of the facts, the victim was on the balcony at the exact moment the structure collapsed.
Immediately rescued and transported to the hospital, she died a few hours later from her very serious injuries. As a precaution, given the precarious structural condition of the building, three families residing in the building were immediately evacuated. The evacuees were relocated to a shelter.
The area remains closed, and the Municipality will soon issue an order prohibiting access to homes until safety conditions are guaranteed.
