Donald Trump announces the agreement with Vladimir Putin: Russia will supply diesel fuel to the United States and the "global market." The agreement lifts American sanctions and, the president says, will encourage a rapid decline in diesel prices. "I just concluded a very successful meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, during which it was agreed that Russia will immediately supply over 300.000 tons of diesel fuel to the American and global markets, another 500.000 tons in November, and 1.000.000 tons immediately thereafter.

In addition, based on the capacity of their refineries, Russia will then deliver, in a short time, 3.000.000 tons of diesel fuel,” Trump said, referring to the terms of the agreement.

“Thanks to our complete control of the Strait of Hormuz and this important announcement on Russian energy, diesel prices for Americans – and the world – will drop rapidly and at a record rate.

"Ensuring lower prices for Americans, especially our large farmers, ranchers, and truckers, is my top priority. This is a very weighty and important announcement. It must also be made clear that Iran will not obtain nuclear weapons," he concluded.

The U.S. Department of the Treasury completes the picture by posting on its website the "authorization of transactions relating to the sale, delivery, unloading, and import of diesel fuel of Russian origin."

The suspension of sanctions will remain in effect “until 00:01 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time on April 7, 2027.”

In recent weeks, Trump has repeatedly urged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to avoid attacks on Russian refineries. "There are many other targets," the US president said, blaming Kiev's military operations for the rising diesel prices. "It's not about the war with Iran," he said, shifting the focus to the conflict in Ukraine and specifically the actions against Russian facilities. Attempts to reach an "energy truce" in recent months have yielded no appreciable results, and Russia continues to systematically attack infrastructure and civilian buildings in Ukraine.

The white smoke between Washington and Moscow was announced while Trump's emissaries, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, met with a delegation of Ukrainian negotiators in Miami. Last week, the US expressed its intention to restart dialogue to end the conflict, with the possibility of trilateral talks to be held by October.
